Lamentations 1: 3, 8, 10, 22. The Sorrows of Zion

Judah has gone into exile under affliction , and under harsh servitude. She dwells among the nations, but she has found no rest. All of her pursuers have overtaken her in the midst of distress. Jerusalem has sinned greatly, and she has become an unclean thing. All who honored
her despise her, because they have seen her nakedness. The adversary has stretched out his hand over all her precious things. Her enemies have been seen entering the sanctuary. The ones whom you commanded should not enter. Let all their wickedness come before you, and deal with them as you have dealt with me. My groans are many and my heart faint.

In Jeremiah's time, Babylon put siege to Judah and Jerusalem and took their most important citizens into captivity. They plumaged the temple in Jerusalem and stole its gold and ornaments from within it. Jerusalem became desolate with only the scattered few and mostly the poor living there. Those things like their worship, their feasts, and those things which make them a peculiar people of God ceased. Now they became under the control of the nations without God's protection or provision. They were a people in distress. This is because they did not honor the Lord their God, or invite him to control the destiny of their people.

Daily Prayer: Father, sin has a way of disguising itself to give the appearance of something desirable. This is the way of the evil one. He makes rebellion against the Most High seem inviting, but only until the snare is made and the people of God find themselves as prisoners of sin and death. Thank God for the Lord Jesus Christ, because when he comes, he will put an end to death and power of the devil by his life, death, and resurrection from the dead. Holy are you Lord and gracious is your disposition. Amen and Amen.
