Isaiah 9: 2, 6-7 Birth & reign of the Prince of Peace

The people who walk in darkness will see a great light and those who live in a dark land the light will shine on them. A child will be born to us and a son will be given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders and his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, and Prince of Peace. There will be no end to the increase of his government or of peace.
He will reign on the throne of David and over has kingdom. He will establish it and uphold it with justice and righteousness, from then on and forever. The zeal of the Lord of Hosts will accomplish this.

One can see two things taking place in this prophecy. The forecast is clearly speaking of Jesus Christ, but it involves activities of both his first advent and second coming. This means that this prophecy is fulfilled in part awaiting further consummation. Isaiah is speaking to the Jews who are the ones who are living in a dark land and who will see a great light. The child who is born and the son who is given is clearly Jesus. Where it speaks of no ending to the government's increase and his reign over David's Kingdom can only take place in the Second Coming during a period known as his millennial reign - a period of 1000 years when Jesus rules from Zion before the introduction of the eternal kingdom. God is making it incumbent only upon himself for the prophecies fulfillment.

Daily Prayer: Lord, the reason we keep watching with a blessed hope is with great expectation of the return of Lord Jesus. At that time we will be truly blessed as we will be living in a time of full justice and righteousness on earth. This is the way you intended for us to live. Amen.
