Isaiah 32: 1-2, 15-17 The Glorious Future

Behold, a king will reign righteously and princes will rule justly. Each will be like a refuge from the wind and shelter from the storm. Until the Spirit is poured out upon us from on high, and the wilderness becomes a fertile field, and the tertile field is considered a forest - Then justice will dwell in the wilderness, and righteousness will be peace, and trhe service of righteousness is quietness, and confidence forever.

This is an oracle which opens up a messianic horizon for the inhabitants of Jerusalem - the promise of peace that will endure. The name Jerusalem translates "City of Peace." The future king will surely be the same person as is announced in the Book of Immanuel. He will ensure justice and protection against its enemies. Peace is not merely the absence of war; nor can it be reduced solely to the maintenance of a balance of power; not can it bbe brought about by dictatorship. Peace results from that order structured into himan society by its divine Founder, and actualized by men who thirst for greater justice.

Daily Prayer: Father, it is clear that you do not forget your promises to those who love you. Your people who are the Jews of Israel and Judah, along with the Church, look forward to a day when the Rightful Ruler found in the Son will insure safety, justice and peace everywhere. In your holy name I pray Amen.
