Matthew 8:23-27 True Faith Knows No Circumstances

When He got into the boat, His disciples followed Him. And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being covered with the waves; but Jesus Himself was asleep. And they came to Him and woke Him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing!” He said to them, “Why are you afraid, you men of little faith?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and it became perfectly calm. The men were amazed, and said, “What kind of a man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”

Faith does not recognize circumstances. In this story, we have experienced men of the seas afraid for their life. We also have the Son of God sleeping through the crisis. Who between them is greater? The disciples awoke Jesus and asked what he was going to do about it. Jesus told them that their faith was small and seemingly they though he was going to perish with his companions. Jesus commanded the waves to be still and they obeyed. Now the disciples were no longer afraid of their circumstances, but feared Jesus who commands the waves to obey. Jesus is the living example of faith greater than his circumstances, because there will come a day when he will go to the cross and take ownership over death itself in order that we may be saved.

Daily Prayer: Lord Jesus, settle me in times of crisis so that I know that whatever the circumstances are that try to overtake me, that nothing can do one thing that you do not have the final say over. Therefore keep me calm in life tribulation. Amen.
