Matthew 11:7-11 King of Kings and Lord of Lords

As these men were going away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John, “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? But what did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothing? Those who wear soft clothing are in kings’ palaces! But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and one who is more than a prophet. This is the one about whom it is written, ‘BEHOLD, I SEND MY MESSENGER AHEAD OF YOU, WHO WILL PREPARE YOUR WAY BEFORE YOU.’ Truly I say to you, among those born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptist! Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

John the Baptist was distinct because his dress was a goat skin and his diet mascots. He grew in popularity because of his unique personality and his mission of baptism for the repentance from your sins. He lived in the desert so Jesus’ question is a fair one, “What have you come out here to see.” A broken man, is that the spectacle? I have for you a comparison: John who you think is wild is the greatest among all men born from a woman. Even as great as a king. But truly I tell you, even he is least of those who dwell in My Father’s Kingdom. So repent, yes I say repent, but more importantly draw near to God and the One he sent.

Daily Prayer: Father, open the eyes of our hearts so that we are not blind to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, even though he is lowly and meek, let us not miss him. In Your holy name I pray Amen.
