Korah's Rebellion (Numbers 16: 3-5, 31-34)

The people gathered agains Aaron and Moses said, "Why do you think you're so much better than anyone else? We're part of the LORD's holy people, and he's with all of us. What makes you think you're the only ones in charge? When Moses heard this, he knelt down to pray. Then he said to Korah and his followers: Tomorrow morning the LORD will show us the person he has chosen to be his priest, and that man wwill faithfully serve him. As soon as Moses said this, the ground under the men opened up and swallowed them alive, together with their families and everything they owned. The the round closed back up, and they were gone. The rest of the Israelites heard the screams, so they ran off, shouting, "We don't want that to happpen to us!"
Korah and his descendents were from the Tribe of Levi which is the priestly line. Moses and Aaron were also families of this same tribe. Korah's complaint was that he wanted the control over the many without God's choosing him. God chose the Levites to be his priests over the congregation, but he chose Moses and Aaron to lead. Korah was in the flesh regarding his complaint. He didn't go to God with his petition, but instead rallied men around him to stike God's elect. In faith, Moses called upon God to make his choice public and God heard his petition and brought judgment against Korah and his bank of rebels.
Daily Prayer: Father, the sin of Korah is the sin of thinking too much of myself that what I ought to. It is important to remember that my strength is in you and not in myself. Korah's pride is the same pride of Lucifer when he brought his will against you and you banished him from heaven for this ungodly rebellion and you banished Korah for the same sin. Amen.
