Nahum 3: 1-4 Woe to Nineveh

Woe to the bloody city, completely full of lies and pillage. Her pray never departs. The noise of the whip, the noise of the rattling of the wheel of galloping horses, and bounteousness chariots. Horsemen charge and swords flash, and many is slain a mass of corpses, and countless dead bodies. All because of the many harlotry of the harlot, the charming one, the mistress of sorcery who sells nations by her harlotry.

Here the prophet cites Nineveh's crimes which is violence, deception, plunder, and witchcraft. In all the ancient world, no single city had matched the Assyrian capital for its calculated cruelty, Indeed, none had boasted about it as the Assyrian rulers. Second, the crime is charged is deceit and Nahum writes the city is "full of lies." Third, Nineveh is indicted for plunder. In had grown rich, but it had done so at the expense of others. In response to these charges, God declares he is against them and he will expose them to the contempt of the nations they have plundered.

Daily Prayer: Father, no sin is hidden from your sight. By your grace and through your mercy, you often do not expose our sins, but they remain hidden. Your hope is for repentance, but if we fail, you will surely not leave the sin unpunished. Give us the wisdom to walk wisely and in humility before you I pray in Jesus name Amen.
