God makes plans to bring his people out of Egypt (Exodus 1:8)

Many years later a new king came to power. He did not know what Joseph had done for Egypt.

While the sons of Jacob were in Egypt, they multiplied in number by the hand of God. Until now, Joseph could handle the affairs of Jacob, but now a new leader arises in Egypt who doesn't honor Joseph. In this passage this is the first time that God refers to the families of Jacob as "his people." Politically they were powerless as one can see, but these are those who God is entrusting the promises of Abraham and the ultimate mission of producing the Savior of the world. This people of God now numbers greater than two million and will be brought back to Canaan, the land of promise.

Daily Prayer: Father, I am also a son of the Most High. Not because I am a son of Jacob, but because Jesus Christ chose me for the sake of salvation. This now makes me a joint heir or son with Jesus as I wait with the blessed hope of Christ's return. Amen.
