2 Peter 3: 1-4 the Coming Day of the Lord

This is now, beloved, the second letter I am writing to you in which I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder, that you should remember the words spoken beforehand by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken by your apostles. Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation.”

One of the imperatives of the whole New Testament is the warning to believers to remember. The most important reason for this is because Jesus vows to make a second appearing and it is forecasted that the world will be in rebellion at that time and God forbid that Christians get caught up in the ways of the world when their Master returns. The greatest sin humankind can make is to asset that God and his Son Jesus Christ do not take action in response to the activity in the world. In these verses, Peter reminds us that Gods ways are not our ways and his thoughts are not our thoughts. The Second Temple Jews assumed God was not acting until he carried them away out of their land as prisoners in Babylon. In the same, but greater way, Jesus will come to judge the living and the dead and we are to be found awaiting our blessed hope!

Daily Prayer: Lord Jesus, I know you are returning because your words are sure. By your Spirit, strengthen and uphold me so that I will be ready on that day. In your holy name I pray Amen .
