2 Peter 1:16-21 Inerrancy in the Bible - Source Theology

For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, “This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased”— and we ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain. So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

When the Church Fathers declared that the Bible is true and without error, it was because the ones who recorded the Scriptures were eye witnesses to the work and the person of Jesus Christ. Furthermore, they were spoken to directly from God the Father and had the Holy Spirit bearing along with these human authors so that it was recorded in the detail that God intended. Yet the Bible warns us against false prophecy. The condition for revelation from God as opposed to counterfeit revelation is that God's prophecy is true and comes to pass, where the false prophets words fail. Know for certain that if God said it, it will surely come to pass, but if man said it apart from God, it will be proven to be a lie from Satan himself. The Holy Trinity works together with the prophets and the apostles so that the Scriptures become the Word of God.

Daily Prayer: Father, let me and my brothers and sisters in Christ be students of Your Word. Let us believe in them and live our lives by them so that when we pass from this life, we will enter a life with You. In Your holy name I pray Amen.
