Luke 9:57-62 Jesus Says "Follow Me"

As they were going along the road, someone said to Him, “I will follow You wherever You go.” And Jesus said to him, “The foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” And He said to another, “Follow Me.” But he said, “Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father.” But He said to him, “Allow the dead to bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim everywhere the kingdom of God.” Another also said, “I will follow You, Lord; but first permit me to say good-bye to those at home.” But Jesus said to him, “No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
And Jesus says to you today, “Follow Me.”  Do you have an excuse, or do you set your hand to the plow and proclaim God’s Kingdom?  Jesus opens these verses by acknowledging that He, who is the Son of God, does not even have a place to lay His head.  But when searching Jesus out, we find that He is doing His Father’s business.  In the world of contracts, if an offer is made to you and you present a counter-offer, that is considered a rejection of the offer made.  In the same way, when Jesus calls you today to ask you to “follow him,” do you accept the offer from the Son of Man or do you give him a “counter offer?”
Whatever you decide, remember this, heaven and earth will pass away, but His Word will never pass away.  With this in mind, make your decision about Him.
Daily Prayer:  It is very hard to believe that when the King of the universe makes a personal offer to me to follow Him, that I must think about is before deciding.  What kind of people are we anyway?  Through Him, salvation is offered and through nobody else.  Who am I to refuse the King?  May it never be.  In Jesus name I pray Amen.
