Mark 14:12-16 The Last Passover

On the first day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover lamb was being sacrificed, His disciples said to Him, “Where do You want us to go and prepare for You to eat the Passover?” And He sent two of His disciples and said to them, “Go into the city, and a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him; and wherever he enters, say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher says, “Where is My guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?”’ And he himself will show you a large upper room furnished and ready; prepare for us there.” The disciples went out and came to the city, and found it just as He had told them; and they prepared the Passover.

Yesterday, we saw a woman anointing Jesus for His death. Now, Jesus is with the disciples preparing for the last Passover before he Himself makes atonement for our sins, by suffering and dying on the Cross and after three days, raising from the dead. Providence is when something happens just right at an appointed time. In this message today, Jesus and the disciples have nowhere to observe the Passover. Jesus tells them of a man in the city who will give them access. And so it was that when they went into the city, a stranger invites them to the Upper Room where they gathered for Passover. In the same way, once Jesus dies, someone else will step forward lending Jesus his tomb for burial. Jesus had no possessions in his ministry and offered none to the disciples.

Daily Prayer: Lord Jesus, we agonize over material things. We kill ourselves to make a living, but You as our example only killed yourself for believers who depended on You for eternal life. Let us learn to count our blessings daily and learn to always give thanks for all You have done. In Your holy name I pray Amen.
