Mark 13:24-27 The Return of Christ

“But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers that are in the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. And then He will send forth the angels, and will gather together His elect from the four winds, from the farthest end of the earth to the farthest end of heaven.

The sequence of events in these times is that Jesus first comes to “call up” the saints who have already trusted in Jesus for their salvation. He will remove them from the world before the time of the Great Tribulation. Then, the Restrainer of evil, the Holy Spirit will remove His presence on earth, setting the stage for Satan’s uncontested rule over earth for a period of seven years. Even in this period, many who were not previously saved will trust in Jesus as Savior, but will need to persevere until the end of this period in order to be saved. Now, Jesus comes again to gather the believers who remain on earth so that all who trust in Him will be with him. When Jesus comes, there will be no doubt about it. Even the sun and moon will be darkened and the stars will fall from heaven when Jesus comes for the elect.

Daily Prayer: Father, it is a worthy statement to call believers to Jesus in the period of grace when one does not have to contend with the power of Satan to be saved, only believe in Jesus. You make it simple, but stubborn men make it hard. Remove us from trust in ourselves and return it to You. In Jesus name I pray Amen.
