Matthew 13:33-35 Leaven and the Kingdom of Heaven

He spoke another parable to them, “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three pecks of flour until it was all leavened.” All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables, and He did not speak to them without a parable. This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet “I WILL OPEN MY MOUTH IN PARABLES; I WILL UTTER THINGS HIDDEN SINCE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD.”

In the Bible passages, leaven (yeast) is used as a symbol of evil or uncleanness. Here it is used as a positive symbol of growth. Although leaven looks like a mirror ingredient, it permeates the whole loaf. Although the kingdom began small and was nearly invisible, it would soon grow and have a great impact on the world.

Daily Prayer: Lord, allow me and others to realize that your kingdom has already come and that eternal life is a present position. For those who have trusted in Jesus, their soul has been preserved and will never taste death. But to those who have refused the Son of God, they will die a second death and one that cannot be quenched. Lord, open the hearts of those who have carelessly trusted themselves instead of You. In Jesus name I pray Amen.
