Matthew 13:10-15 Jesus Explains His Parables to the Disciples

And the disciples came and said to Him, “Why do you speak to them in parables?” Jesus answered them, “To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted. For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him. Therefore I speak to them in parables; because while seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. In their case the prophecy of Isaiah is being fulfilled, which says, ‘YOU WILL KEEP ON HEARING, BUT WILL NOT UNDERSTAND; YOU WILL KEEP ON SEEING, BUT WILL NOT PERCEIVE; FOR THE HEART OF THIS PEOPLE HAS BECOME DULL, AND I WOULD HEAL THEM.’

These words from Jesus follow from the day before. God, through the Son make revelation to those whom He willed. The Chose People, who are the Jews have been hardened by God at this time such that His revelation was not understood by them. This is because they will ultimately reject their Savior and send him to the Cross which will be fulfillment of God’s plan for the salvation of all peoples who receive him because Jesus is the only acceptable atonement for the forgiveness of sin. It also puts in place Jesus’ Second Coming when the Jews will surely receive the One whom the crucified.

Daily Prayer: Father, let me not be silent concerning the sacrifice of Jesus. Let me tell the story to anyone who will hear so that they do not fail to have the opportunity to receive Your forgiveness. In Jesus name and for his sake I pray Amen.
