Matthew 13: 16-23 the Parable of the Sower Explained

But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear. For truly I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it. “Hear then the parable of the sower. When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is the one on whom seed was sown beside the road. The one on whom seed was sown on the rocky places, this is the man who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has no firm root in himself, but is only temporary, and when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he falls away. And the one on who seed was sown among the thorns, this is the man who hears the word, and the worry of the world and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. And the one on whom seed was sown on the good soil, this is the man who hears the word and understands it; who indeed bears fruit and brings forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty.”

A word theologian’s use for Jesus’ earthly appearance is he is the “fullness of times.” This means that issues of God that had to be relied upon in the past as future happenings are now taking place in their fullness as Jesus represents God with us. Yet even with his appearance, many did not either believe or understand, especially among the Jews. Therefore Jesus now explains to his disciples the meaning of the parable of the sower. It all comes down to the fertility of the soil. Not unless the word or seed fall upon good soil will it reveal God and His Kingdom to the hearer. The soil is man’s heart so if belief is hard to come by, then the soil needs to be enriched, and the means of enrichment is continuous exposure to the Word of God as reveal in the Scriptures.

Daily Prayer: Father, place in my hands Your Word so that it can come into my mind and then into my heart so that I may profit from your telling of the secrets of old through the revelation that you gave me. Increase my faith so that I can accomplish this without hesitation or doubt. In Jesus name I pray Amen.
