1 Thessalonians 5:14-23 Christian Conduct

We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone. See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all people. Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Do not quench the Spirit; do not despise prophetic utterances. But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good; abstain from every form of evil. Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Much is said in these few verses concerning the conduct of Christians. First, he exhorts us to build one another up and not weary ourselves in destructive behavior. Instead, encourage each other and remember to give thanks in all things, because this is the will of God. Because the Christian's power to work differently depends on the power of the Holy Spirit that indwells them, then do not quench the Spirit which is intentionally moving away from His guidance in your life because this is the same as one putting one's own face against God which leads to death. Instead, follow the leading of the Spirit, because greater is He who is in you, than he who is in the world. Third pray without ceasing and take every thought captive to the Lord Jesus Christ. And finally rest assured concerning your own sanctification by the Holy Spirit, because He who has began a good work in you will see it through until the end.

Daily Prayer: Lord Jesus, I do give thanks for your choosing me, even though I came into the world hostile toward you. You gave me the Holy Spirit to guild me and strengthen me and impart a new life in me which is a regenerated soul. Now let me spend my time building up the church which is your bride so that she becomes stronger in part because of me. In Your holy name I pray Amen.
