Luke 13: 22 - 27 Christ divides men

And He was passing through from one city and village to another, teaching, and proceeding on His way to Jerusalem. And someone said to Him, “Lord, are there just a few who are being saved?” And He said to them, “Strive to enter through the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able. Once the head of the house gets up and shuts the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock on the door, saying, ‘Lord, open up to us!’ then He will answer and say to you, ‘I do not know where you are from.’ Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets’; and He will say, ‘I tell you, I do not know where you are from; DEPART FROM ME, ALL YOU EVILDOERS.’

Self righteousness is the worst trap men and women face. It is far better to be known as a sinner in need of a Savior, than to presume innocence when you are clouded in darkness and deceit. Ever since Jesus Christ was crucified, died, and was risen from the dead to ascend to heaven, we have been living in the period known as "the age of grace." In this time, salvation is found in trust in Jesus Christ alone and his finished work on the cross for one's salvation. Apart from trust in Christ alone, there is no salvation, only separation from God forever. It would seem that this is the easiest time in history to be put in right standing before God, but people still insist that their actions are not all that bad. To those who presume innocence, they will surely be saved, but to those who admit their guilt before the Judge, he will cover their sins with his very blood.

Daily Prayer: Father, forgive us because we know not what we are doing. So often we try to please you with our behavior. On our best day, however, we are sinners saved by grace. Through our life, we cannot please you, so that God for the gift of the son, who through his work reconciles all who trust in him to you. In Jesus name I pray Amen.
