Then came the first day of
Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. And Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, so that we may eat it.” They said to Him, “Where do You want us to
prepare it?” And
He said to them, “When you have
entered the city, a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him
into the house that he enters. And you shall say to the owner of the house,
‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room in which I may eat the
Passover with My disciples?”’ And he will show you a large,
furnished upper room; prepare it there.” And they left and found everything just
as He had told them; and they prepared the Passover.
Today we are seeing the beginning
of the end of Jesus’ earthly
ministry. Jesus and the twelve are now
in Jerusalem at
the time of the sacred holiday called Passover.
This is the shedding of innocent blood, a sign of the greater sacrifice
found in Jesus at the Cross. Sometimes the Bible reveals patters of
behavior. Jesus and the disciples don’t
have a home or belongings. But Jesus in
His foreknowledge sends the disciples to seek out a particular person to give
use of a place to hold the Passover. It
is here where Jesus will institute the Lord’s Table which will be an
everlasting covenant for His followers for the forgiveness of their sins. It is offered freely to all who believe.
Daily Prayer: Jesus, I am so
glad that the crucifixion is over and that You reign as King of Kings and the
everlasting Prince of Peace. How
thankful that I am for Your washing away my sins and remembering them no more.
Therefore let us live a bold life proclaiming Your name so that all who
have been given to you may be saved. In
Your holy name I pray Amen.
