Some of the scribes answered and
said, “Teacher, You have spoken well.” For they
did not have courage to question Him any longer about anything. ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit
at My right hand, Until I make
Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.”’ Therefore David calls Him ‘Lord,’ and
how is He his son?” And
while all the people were listening, He said to the disciples, “Beware
of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and love respectful
greetings in the market places, and chief seats in the synagogues and places of
honor at banquets, who devour widows’ houses, and for
appearance’s sake offer long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation.”
It is strange that because David became king
over all of Israel ,
that even to this day, people hold to the words of their greatest king
David. But when the King of Kings
appears before them, they become stiff-necked and stubborn. It is for this reason that Jesus presents
them with the secrets of the Kingdom.
Jesus reminds the people and their leaders that David proclaimed Him as
the Anointed One, so how can He be the son of David? To the non-believer, this is non-sense, but
to the Child of God, they instantly know that Jesus is the Son of God (The
Anointed One) and the Son of Man (Son of David). Jesus condemns the leaders as being blind
guides and ones who do not shepherd the people as David did. For this reason, they will be judged harshly
because they led others who depend on them astray.
Daily
Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are indeed King
of Kings and Lord of Lords. Apart from
You, there is none other. Yet many still
don’t believe and don’t understand.
Because our leaders are undependable, draw near to them so that the work
of the Holy Spirit can take affect in their lives. I pray this in Your holy name Amen.
