As Jesus was approaching Jericho , a blind man was
sitting by the road begging. Now
hearing a crowd going by, he began to inquire what this was.
They told him that Jesus of Nazareth was
passing by. And he called out, saying, “Jesus, Son
of David, have mercy on me!” Those
who led the way were sternly telling him to be quiet; but he kept crying out
all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” And Jesus stopped and commanded that he
be brought to Him; and when he came near, He questioned him, “What
do you want Me to do for you?” And he said,
“Lord, I want to regain my sight!” And
Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has made
you well.” Immediately
he regained his sight and began following Him, glorifying God; and when all
the people saw it, they gave praise to God.
When Jesus worked miracles, these
acts are referred to as signs. They and
many other acts like it are signs from God that Jesus is who He declares, who
is the Son of Man and the Son of God.
Jesus rarely worked miracles unless someone came to Him in faith that He
could do what others cannot. Frequently
when this person of faith came forward, others would try to quiet this
one. When children came to Jesus, the
disciples tried to brush them off, but Jesus said not to hinder them. Today, when the blind man called out, the
crowd tried to quiet him. But in the
cases where someone sought Him for who He is, He by no wise let them down.
Daily Prayer: Lord, You are the same today as in times
past. You still are watching for those
to approach You and let their troubles rest on You. You alone can tear down and build up. So remind us that we have a friend in You who
loves us and has died and rose again to set us free. In Jesus name I pray Amen.
