“Woe to you, Chorazin!
Woe to you, Bethsaida !
For if the miracles had been performed in Tyre
and Sidon which
occurred in you, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and
ashes. But it will be
more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment than for you.
And you, Capernaum , will not be exalted to heaven,
will you? You will be brought down to Hades! “The one who
listens to you listens to Me, and the one who rejects you rejects Me; and he
who rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me.” The seventy
returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your
name.” And He said to
them, “I was watching Satan fall
from heaven like lightning. Behold,
I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the
power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you. Nevertheless do
not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your
names are recorded in heaven.”
People tend to be impressed mostly with
themselves. The seventy disciples that
Jesus sent out came back elated that powers that Jesus had given them rendered
them control over the enemy. Jesus had
noticed that the wonders that He accomplished in neighbor towns were not
esteemed. Now, the seventy disciples
return with power that is not their own, rejoicing over dominion over the enemy. Jesus warns them not to think more highly
than they ought to and that gloating over the enemy is not His practice. Instead, draw the enemy into a place of repentance
so that it will glorify the Father in heaven.
Daily Prayer: Lord, we can be nothing more that what we
are. For this reason, change and
transform me to be like You so that in the world, I may represent You in those
areas where You call me to be Your witness.
In Your holy name I pray Amen.
