Mark 10: 17-22 The Certainty of Heaven

As He was setting out on a journey, a man ran up to Him and knelt before Him, and asked Him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone. You know the commandments, ‘DO not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.’” And he said to Him, “Teacher, I have kept all these things from my youth up.” Looking at him, Jesus felt a love for him and said to him, “One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” But at these words he was saddened, and he went away grieving, for he was one who owned much property.

Two lessons should be taken away from this reading. First, you cannot worship both money and God – That is Rule 1. Second, Salvation is not found in rules or commandments – Salvation is found in a person and the only person where salvation is found is in the Person of Jesus Christ. It is He who appeases an otherwise wrathful God, because He took the wrath of God, poured out on Him for the forgiveness of our sins and for our salvations sake. If you know this, you can also know that you will end your physical life with a journey to heaven.

Daily Prayer: Lord, You have already forgiven me all of my sins. Even now, I have certainty of heaven and Your protection of my life in this world. Bring this to my whole family so that they may know You and love You. In Jesus name I pray Amen.
