Matthew 21:18-22 Unwavering Faith

Now in the morning, when He was returning to the city, He became hungry. Seeing a lone fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it except leaves only; and He said to it, “No longer shall there ever be any fruit from you.” And at once the fig tree withered. Seeing this, the disciples were amazed and asked, “How did the fig tree wither all at once?” And Jesus answered and said to them, “Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ it will happen. And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”

The question that one may ask is whether or not Jesus is speaking to us literally or figuratively. I have heard commentaries say that the “mountain” Jesus is referring to is symbolic of the difficult problems of our life. We must remember, however, that the prophet Elijah called on the sky to withhold its rain and there was no rain for three and a half years until by his word he allowed it to return. The word when spoken in the name of God or of Jesus has the power of God. Did God by the word of His servant Moses, divide the Red Sea? One can see that God’s word is literal for those who have the faith in Him that nothing is too hard for God. So in your prayers, ask God for that kind of uncompromised faith so that you may see God’s power in your own life.

Daily Prayer: Father-God, just as we believe that Jesus was raised from the dead, so we believe that You will be no way less effective for all the sons of God. Let the words of this lesson reach the people who need to hear them and do not allow them to come back empty. In Jesus name I pray Amen.
