At that time the disciples came to Jesus and said, “Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” And He called a child to Himself and set him before them, and said, “Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever receives one such child in My name receives Me; but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.
Very few adults are not pleased with the innocent and pure motives of a toddler. We smile as we see them learn to walk and are pleased as they cling to their father and mother and love the way the fully depend on mom and dad. We say to ourselves what a joy it would be to have all of our concerns handled by another. Well they are. Our Father in heaven knows us completely. He causes the sun to arise every morning and the dew of the afternoon to gently bring rain. He provides for the squirrels in the tree and brings us the job He has provided. The only difference between the infant and us is that the adult gives himself credit for all he has done, where the toddler knows better. This is why Jesus says that unless we can become as infants in our faith, we will have no place with Him.
Daily Prayer: Father, You use the weak to show Your strength and take the least of us to exalt. Blessed are You, Father, for counting me worthy of the great works you steadfastly do in my life. In Jesus name I pray Amen.
