Matthew 12: 43-45 the destiny for those who don't believe

“Now when the unclean spirit goes out of a man, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came’; and when it comes, it finds it unoccupied, swept, and put in order. Then it goes and takes along with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first. That is the way it will also be with this evil generation.”

Jesus has just said that “this generation” is an evil one because they demand yet more signs from the Son of God. Now he is saying that because they have had God with them in the person of Jesus Christ and they did not receive him, even a more deplorable fate is in store for them than before their knowledge of him. He compares them to a man who is demon possessed. Because they have had the opportunity to become clean and did not, then their later state will be as though seven greater demons possess them. Their later state is worse than the first because they did not know him with their mind and believe in him with their heart.

Daily Prayer: Father, pave the way to belief followed by an obedient heart. We cannot do this alone, but with your help and the Holy Spirit, who dwells within me, make me free from my transgressions. In Jesus name I pray Amen.
