Peter began to say to Him, “Behold, we have left everything and followed you.” Jesus said, “Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or farms, for My sake and for the gospel’s sake, but that he will receive a hundred times as much now in the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and the last, first.”
When it comes to the subject of reward, one first must have their heart in the right position. The Bible teaches us that if you seek the Kingdom of Heaven as your first priority, then all other things will be added to you. That does not mean that you can seek God’s Kingdom as a bargaining chip for financial reward, because Jesus has already told us that the last will be first and the first will be last. But it does emphasize the importance of understanding temporal reward from the eternal reward. Eternal reward is reward indeed, because it comes from God and never ends.
Daily Prayer: Lord, let me not put my priority on money, since I cannot serve both money and God. Instead, lead me by Your Spirit to pursue worthy and Godly goals and receive my reward from the Father Himself, and those rewards will satisfy. Amen.
