Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries which are coming upon you. Your riches have rotted and your garments have become moth-eaten. Your gold and your silver have rusted; and their rust will be a witness against you and will consume your flesh like fire. It is in the last days that you have stored up your treasure! Behold, the pay of the laborers who mowed your fields, and which has been withheld by you, cries out against you; and the outcry of those who did the harvesting has reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.
Jesus declared that it will be easier for a camel to enter the eye of a needle than for the rich man to come into the Kingdom of Heaven. The reason is that humans are so self-centered that if they have riches now their usual practice is to make the riches their god. Riches are the remedy for sustained growth in self-centered life apart from God. Jesus even told the rich young ruler who wanted to be his disciple to go and give all that you have away to the poor, and then you will be complete. The rich young ruler could not do this, because his riches were abundant. So in your life now, when you encounter difficult times remember that the Son of Man had no place to lay his head. Therefore count it as joy that your Redeemer has so ordered your life that your riches will not be temporary, but will be stored up for you where they will not be lost.
Daily Prayer: Holy Father, let me count it as joy the life you give me today. At the end of the day, let me declare what Jesus has already told me which is "My grace is sufficient for you." In his name I pray Amen.
