Watch yourselves, that you do not lose what we have accomplished, but that you may receive a full reward. Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God; the one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house, and do not give him a greeting; for the one who gives him a greeting participates in his evil deeds.
John is repeating the sentiments of Paul when he urges his listeners to be steadfast in the faith and not to give up ground that was won by the blood of Jesus. Instead establish your hope in him alone as he counted you worthy to lay down his life for. Just as certainly as Jesus arose from the dead, he most certainly come again and his disciples should be found faithful when he returns if indeed their hope is in Him.
Daily Prayer: Lord Jesus, you return is a blessing for the faithful, but a time of reckoning for those who are not faithful to you. Convict and convince our spirits of the grave importance of being loyal to you who is our Savior. In your holy name I pray Amen.
