“But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, ‘Son, go work today in the vineyard.’ And he answered, ‘I will not’; but afterward he regretted it and went. The man came to the second and said the same thing; and he answered, ‘I will, sir’; but he did not go. Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the kingdom of God before you. For John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him; but the tax collectors and prostitutes did believe him; and you, seeing this, did not even feel remorse afterward so as to believe him.
Throughout the Bible, God and His Son Jesus Christ are most concerned with the inner-man of a person. It is not so important what one can see from outward appearances, but more important are the intentions of the heart. This is true when Abel offered a better sacrifice than Cain, when Abraham was declared righteous because he believed God. It was true when Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount where He redefines the Law as those contemplations of the heart. The period we live in is the New Covenant. Here, all men understand God’s Laws, because they are written on their hearts. This is why we say let your conscience be your guide.
Daily Prayer: Father, let us choose wisdom by following our conscience. Even more, let us credit You for that small voice who governs our lives so that Your will may be done. In Jesus name I pray Amen.
