For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything.19 For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, 20 and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.
We know that because of Adams sin, all people are born into his sin and separated from God. Previously we termed this, "children of wrath." But hostility between God and His creation is not God's will. It is by the decree of God that Jesus took on flesh and entered into our world. Now the invisible God can be seen, touched, and heard by humankind. Paul calls him the image of the invisible God. We need to remember that Paul is an apostle and has had face to face knowledge with Jesus Christ. It is here that a New Testament writer identifies Jesus Christ as the One who participated in the creation and by him, all things hold together or are sustained by him. It was through his shed blood that peace was made between heaven and earth.
Daily Prayer: Lord Jesus, I trust you in all things, because you have the most invested in my life and world. Gird me with a reverent faith that does not waiver, regardless of the circumstances that I experience. I pray this in your holy name Amen.
