On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”
It has crossed my mind that when Jesus did His earthly ministry, He began it at the age of 30 and less than three years later He was crucified. How could he accomplish as much as he needed in such a short period of time? The answer: through the church. The text tells us that Jesus sent his disciples and equipped them with the Holy Spirit. He also ordained them to forgive sins as needed but to deny the unrepentant sinner.
Naturally He gave them the power of discernment and the Holy Spirit leads them and reproves them. And has it has been, it continues to be the Church of Jesus Christ until He returns.
Daily Prayer: Lord Jesus thank you for including me in Your church. But not only me, but all who profess You as Lord and Savior. Keep the church unified so that the body of Christ is not divided and we represent you in the world. In Jesus name I pray Amen.
