When Jesus had called the Twelve
together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure
diseases,
and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. He told them: “Take nothing for the journey—no staff, no bag, no bread, no
money, no extra shirt.
Whatever house you enter, stay there until you leave that town.
If people do not welcome you, leave their town and shake the dust off
your feet as a testimony against them.”
So they set out and went from village to
village, proclaiming the good news and healing people everywhere.
The disciples were sent out to be
Jesus’ representative. He equipped them,
but also protected them in the same way He protected Abraham. Abraham likewise was sent from his native
home to a land that God would show him. Whoever blessed him, God will bless,
but whoever curses him, likewise God will curse, but God will bless the nations
through him. In the same way, Jesus sent
the disciples out, but expected His followers to receive them into their
homes. To those who honored them, Jesus
will leave His peace. But whoever
rejects them, likewise Jesus will reject.
This is because those who do it to the least of these, they have also
done unto Him.
Daily Prayer: Lord Jesus, You have sent me into the world,
not to join the world, but to represent You in it. I have seen Your mighty protection over me
and You have upheld me in all that I do.
In the same manner, send all who hear this message today to represent
You in this high calling and to bring the knowledge of sin’s forgiveness to all
that need to hear. In Your holy name I
pray Amen.
