But of that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. “Take heed; keep on the alert; for you do not know when the appointed time will come it is like a man away on a journey, who upon leaving his house and putting his slaves in charge, assigning to each one his task, also commanded the doorkeeper to stay on the alert. Therefore, be on the alert—for you do not know when the master of the house is coming, whether in the evening, at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning— in case he should come suddenly and find you asleep. 37 What I say to you I say to all, ‘Be on the alert!’”
The most common mistake made by people is we become slack in our watchfulness for the return of Jesus. The text says that God alone knows the appointed hour for the return of Christ. We are warned to be watchful and to be about our Master’s business so that upon his return, he may be satisfied with us. Sadly, many who do not believe in the Bible do not believe in the return of Christ at all, and for that one, a worse appointment than total destruction awaits. Instead it will be an everlasting ruin. But to the faithful who await His return, to them will be great reward and blessing. So the message closes by urging our watchfulness.
Daily Prayer: Lord Jesus, I do believe in Your return, but no not whether it be in my lifetime. Now I sharpen my life by praising You for all that You do and long to meet You face to face. Come Lord Jesus! Amen.
