As He was going out of the temple, one of His disciples said to Him, “Teacher, behold what wonderful stones and what wonderful buildings!” And Jesus said to him, “Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone will be left upon another which will not be torn down.” As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew were questioning Him privately, “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign when all these things are going to be fulfilled?”
In this setting we witness Jesus as a prophet. He tells his disciples that the temple will be thrown down, that is, not wear out, but rather be destroyed. The time in this setting is about 32 AD. In 70 AD Rome will militarily destroy this Second Temple Building. As of today, it has not been rebuilt. The final consummation of the things to come will occur when Jesus returns from the right hand of the Father when he comes back to Jerusalem to judge those who did not take refuge in His suffering on the Cross.
Daily Prayer: Father, in my time the temple exists in my inner-man. When I accepted Jesus as Savior, on that very day I was indwelt by the Holy Spirit to guard and seal me for the day of my salvation. Now, the Temple is not made from hands, but it is resident in the heart of the redeemed. In Jesus name and for His sake I pray Amen.
