“He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me. He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward. And whoever in the name of a disciple gives to one of these little ones even a cup of cold water to drink, truly I say to you, he shall not lose his reward.”
The argument that Jesus had with the Pharisees (the religious leaders) was that they declared that they love God, but did not receive the Son of God. Jesus said that if you truly love the Father, you will likewise love the One that He sent in his name. But if you do not love him, neither do you love the father, and the love of God is not in you. In the same way, Jesus foretold of the day when people would persecute those who believe in him. He declares that on that day, even those who offer a cold cup of water in his name will by no means lose their reward in heaven.
Daily Prayer: Father, we have received the Son and have exalted his name over every other name. We believe that he is both the son of man and the son of God. For this reason, you have pardoned us our sins so that we may be forever with You. In Jesus name I pray Amen.
