And they got up that very hour
and returned to Jerusalem ,
and found gathered together the eleven and those who were with them, saying, “The Lord has really risen and has
appeared to Simon.” They began
to relate their experiences on the road and how He was recognized by them in
the breaking of the bread. While they were telling these things, He Himself stood in
their midst and said to them, “Peace be to you.” But they were startled and frightened and
thought that they were seeing a spirit. And He said to them, “Why
are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? See
My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself; touch Me and see, for a spirit does
not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.” And when He had said this, He
showed them His hands and His feet. While
they still could not believe it because of their joy and amazement, He
said to them, “Have you anything here to eat?”
They gave Him a piece of a broiled fish;
and He took it and ate it before
them.
This reminds us if the saying, “This
is too good to be true.” While they
longed for their Savior, they also witnessed Him crucified. Jesus had forewarned them of His
resurrection, but because they had never witnessed it, it went in one ear and
out the other. The future holds other startling events for the eleven. In the days to come, they will watch Him
ascend into heaven with promises of a Second Coming.
Daily Prayer: Lord Jesus, we
need for You to build faith in our very souls.
In Your flesh, You appear as a common man, but being sent from God,
everything else about You is not common.
We can no longer rely on our senses.
But by faith, we can walk a straight path and not be afraid. This I ask in Your holy name Amen.
