“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. “The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.
Treasure is the hope for something that is lacking in your own life. The Apostle Paul said in the book of Titus that he awaits the “blessed hope.” He was indicating he had put his heart and expectations on the return of Jesus in his life. Jesus is his all in all for which he said all else is rubbish in comparison. When Jesus visited a Samaritan woman, it was she who laid her hope in Jesus’ promise of Living Water, water that once consumed will cause a person to never thirst again. Therefore do not lie awaiting temporal treasures or hope, but put your faith in the One who satisfies.
Daily Prayer: Father, cause me to be satisfied with the Holy Spirit who dwells in me. You have given me Eternal Life, life that will not expire or fall short in the end. So let me rejoice and be glad, because great is my reward. Amen.
